Skurfberg. Citrusdal Mountain. Arbeidsend. These names refer to what is arguably the most Burgundy like area in South Africa. An area where only a handful of winemakers have access to these precious grapes.
Basie Van Lill is the farmer and grower on the Arbeidsend farm and he has been awarded ‘Grower of the Year’ by Tim Atkin MW.
From a renowned wine critic, comes these powerful statements;
‘These are arguably the most terroir-specific wines in our country, making the Skurfberg our very own Burgundy. I believe that in this special place, the terroir has more influence on the wine than grape variety.’
The Pinotage comes from a tiny 3 ha bush vine vineyard and displays intense and concentrated aromas of ripe cherries supported with fruit sweet undertones on the palate.
